AI Overviews now appear on more than 80% of Google searches, according to recent data from Semrush, SE Ranking and seoClarity, as reported by Search Engine Roundtable on October 26, 2026. The figure was reportedly about 50% in June of last year and around 15% the year before that.

How many Google searches show AI Overviews now?

Over 80%, based on the data Search Engine Roundtable cites from Semrush, SE Ranking and seoClarity. Semrush publishes a live chart in its Sensor tool, with breakdowns by industry and query type.

SE Ranking reported that AI Overviews appear on 82.5% of US brand searches. seoClarity’s Mark Traphagen told Search Engine Roundtable about a month earlier that they saw them on over 62% of queries, ranging from 55% to 84% by industry. Note that these are different datasets and methods, so the numbers are not directly comparable.

Do AI Overviews affect brand searches too?

Yes. The SE Ranking figure suggests branded queries, which many teams treated as the safe, high-intent part of their traffic, now trigger AI Overviews most of the time. Search Engine Roundtable’s author assumes non-branded rates are higher still, but that is his assumption, not a published number.

The practical read: AI Overviews are no longer an edge case affecting a few informational queries. They are the default search result layout you should plan around. How much they change clicks depends on your query mix, which none of these figures show.

How should you plan for AI Overviews on most queries?

  • Audit your own keywords. Check which of your top queries, brand and non-brand, trigger an AI Overview, using Semrush, SE Ranking, seoClarity or whichever rank tracker you use.
  • Segment by industry and intent. seoClarity’s 55% to 84% range shows sector matters a lot. Benchmark against your own vertical, not the headline number.
  • Compare Search Console trends. Look at impressions, clicks and CTR on queries where AI Overviews appear versus where they do not.
  • Track citations, not just rankings. Whether your brand is cited or mentioned inside the overview is now part of visibility reporting.
  • Reset expectations with stakeholders. Forecasts built on classic ten-blue-links click curves are likely to overstate traffic.
