Google is expanding ads in AI Mode to ten more countries and launching multiturn ads in the United States, so sponsored placements can now appear as a conversation continues. As reported by Search Engine Roundtable on October 28, 2026, the UK, Brazil and Mexico follow in Q4.

What is changing with Google ads in AI Mode?

Google ads in AI Mode are moving into Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Singapore, with Brazil, Mexico and the United Kingdom added in Q4, according to Search Engine Roundtable. Ads first launched in AI Mode in May 2025.

Multiturn ads are the new format in the U.S. A Google spokesperson said they show up on responses to follow-up queries as users go back and forth with AI Mode. They are labeled “Sponsored”, and Google says it will keep testing formats.

Google also claimed that “click-through rates are already similar between sponsored and organic product list items within AI Mode”. Search Engine Roundtable’s Barry Schwartz questioned whether that holds for text links, and Google gave no data behind it.

Why is Google expanding AI Mode ads now?

Timing suggests monetization pressure. PPC Land reported that the announcement came hours after Alphabet’s results, where ad revenue rose 10.5% against 25% for total revenue. Chief business officer Philipp Schindler named AI Mode among the factors, saying it grows fast and carries fewer ads than a classic results page. That is Google’s own explanation, and the link to the product launches is our interpretation, not something Google stated.

For practitioners, this means AI Mode is being turned into a paid surface, and the paid side will keep growing there. Follow-up questions are also now a place where a brand can be paid for or left out of an answer, which changes how you think about the whole conversation rather than the first query.

Turkey is not on either list, so Turkish advertisers have no AI Mode ads to buy yet. Brands selling into India, the UK, Brazil or Mexico are more directly affected.

How to prepare for ads in AI Mode

  • Check whether your target markets are on the list and note the Q4 additions for planning.
  • If you run Shopping or Search campaigns in those markets, watch for traffic or conversion shifts and look at whether AI Mode can be separated in your reporting.
  • Do not plan budgets around Google’s claim of similar click-through rates; test it with your own data.
  • For organic, track how often your brand appears in AI Mode answers, including follow-up questions, since paid units may now sit beside them.
  • Keep product feeds and landing pages clean, because commercial queries are where ads will appear.
